Heart and Soul

A Robin with a mouthful of worms showing effort as well as heart and soul.

I’ve hear the phrase “poured our heart and soul into ___” several times recently and it occurs to me that each time has been in relation to a failure that could have been prevented if the person who did the pouring was less emotional and was more analytical.

In addition, I hear this phrase the most when the person saying it made zero effort. If they’d tried harder and put in any effort then maybe the outcome would be different.

That is to say, sometimes its best to pour a little bit of brains in there with the heart and soul.

Heart & Soul Come Up Short

I’ve failed more times that I’ve succeeded. Additionally, I’ve felt at times like I have given it my best but still come up short. In those situations I’ve always found it better to analyze what went wrong rather than discussing how hard I tried. This is what prevents future failures.

Therefore, in all things pour everything you’ve got into the things you’re doing. However, when you come up short make sure to ask why rather than just accepting your failures.
