Do you really need a 600mm lens for bird photography?

What You Need Beyond Lens Reach
I'll also show you why understanding bird behavior, choosing the right location, and getting closer to your subject matters just as much as having a longer lens. A 600mm lens gives you incredible reach, especially for small, distant or skittish birds. But that doesn't mean you need a 600mm lens to get started with bird photography.
Longer is not always better, they're heavy, cumbersome, and sometime just too much.
